The Fear of Friday the 13th - Friggatriskaidekaphobia

Superstitiousness not limited to people of specific region, race or ethnicity. So many examples are there that well educated persons even from developed countries suffer from superstition. One of common example is friggatriskaidekaphobia, particularly in the Western countries, which lead to the fear of being 13th day of a month on Friday. Believers of this notion are extra ordinary conscious on this day to travel, signing business deals or taking some step towards new. This is such a notorious belief that their are movies produced in horror category. This day is also known as Black Friday in some countries and considered an unlucky day.


The publication of Thomas W. Lawson's popular novel Friday, the Thirteenth, in 1907, might be contributed to disseminating the superstition. In the novel, an unscrupulous broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a Wall Street panic on a Friday the 13th.


In other cultures like Tuesday the 13th in Hispanic Greek culture and Friday the 17th in the culture of Italy have similar superstition as of Friday the 13th in American or in other European countries.
