What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder causes extreme mood swings including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).

On depression, patient may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities and when the mood shifts in the other direction, may feel euphoric and full of energy.

Frequency

Mood shifts may occur only a few times a year or as often as several times a week.

How to Control

Mostly, bipolar disorder can be controlled with medications and psychotherapy (psychological counseling).

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

Depression

Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, such as feeling sad, empty, hopeless or tearful (in children and teenagers, depressed mood can appear as irritability)

Interests and feelings

Markedly reduced interest or feeling no pleasure in all or almost all activities most of the day, nearly every day.

Health

Significant weight loss when not dieting, weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day (in children, failure to gain weight as expected can be a sign of depression).

Sleep routine

Either insomnia or sleeping excessively nearly every day.

Behavior

Either restlessness or slowed behavior that can be observed by others.

Energy

Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day.

Inappropriate Feelings

Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt, such as believing things that are not true, nearly every day.

Performance

Decreased ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day.

Negative thinking

Negativing thoughts particularly recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide planning or suicidal attempt.

How I cure my Bipolar Disorder

First make sure you are really! Not necessary if you have above symptoms. Consult doctor for your particular case. Never ever take medical decision yourself and keep second opinion (of another consultant) in your mind, always.
