Following is some more information for awareness
Symptoms:
1-Chills
2-Pain in joints, muscles
3-Headache
4-Very high body temperatures, even 104 °F
5-Reddening and pain in eyes Skin Rash
The onset of the fever can be mild but symptoms can fluctuate in repeated episodes
Dengue Hemorrhagic fever:
1-Damage to blood vessels and lymph glands
2-Drop in the blood platelet count
3-Bleeding from gums, nose, mouth
4-Under-skin bleeding which looks like bruises
5-Enlargment of the liver
6-Failure of the circulatory system
The syptems may progress to massive bleeding, shock, and death. This is called Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS).
Treatment:
Cannot be treated by antibiotics. Treated with symptom-relief medicines like antipyretics and pain-relievers under clinical supervision
Tests:
1-Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test
2-Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assey (ELISA) Test
3-Rapid Chromatographic Test
4-Platelets Count Test
Criterion for Hospitalization:
Doctor may evaluate the patient's condition and immediately consider hospitalization, if the following conditions appear:
Increase Hematocrit
Platelet count less than 100,000/mm³
Any spontaneous bleeding
Any warning sign for shocks and symptoms
What Should Be Done?
1-Avoid dark-coloured clothing like black, blue etc.
2-Sponging, Oral Re-hydration Therapy (give ORS), paracetamol tablets
3-Never take aspirin if you have dengue because it may increase your tendency to bleed
4-Keep your surroundings clean
5-Use mosquito repellants, nets etc.
