What is the reason behind that the arrangement of keys (buttons) on keyboard are like this:
QWERTYUIOP
ASDFGHJKL
ZXCVBNM
but not:
ABCDEFGHIJ
KLMNOPQRS
TUVQWXYZ
The reason is that it is based on the most commonly used letters of alphabet.
The QWERTY arrangement was actually invented to avoid the clashing of the keys. When typewriters were first invented they were mechanical devices and if typists typed too fast the mechanical keys would hit each other and get stuck.
That is why the most commonly used letters are operated by the LEFT hand and not the right - the majority of people are right handed so by putting the commonly used letters like E
on the left hand side of the keyboard slows down the typing speed.
The QWERTY design is based on a layout created by Christopher Latham Sholes in 1873 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the Sholes and Glidden typewriter and sold to Remington.
There are different types of keyboard available that includes the straightforward ABCDE... and other arrangements particularly for use by one hand or by people with a disability.
