Merry Christmas means cheerful day of Jesus's birth
. Some people interpret this as God gave birth to baby
which is totally baseless and sometime mixed Merry with Mary (Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus) that is also false.
According to Christians who has faith on Gospel of Luke beleive that Angel announced to the Shepherds ... the angel said to the Jews, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Messiah the Master.
To further elaborate, Merry Christmas, explaining the both words with meanings:
Merry means full of cheerfulness or gaiety; joyous in disposition or spirit, laughingly happy; mirthful; festively joyous; hilarious, causing happiness; pleasant; delightful
examples:
a merry little man.
a merry time at the party.
The New Year's revelers were making merry in the ballroom
The unthinking children made merry of the boy who had no shoes.
Christmas (Xmas):
The word Christmas is derived from Christ's Mass
which has its roots in the Middle English Christemasse
and the Old English Cristes mæsse.
Christ, of course, refers to Jesus Christ. The mass
in this case comes from the English meaning and tradition of a religious feast in honor of a specific person. Christmas Day is the feast day of Christ.
