Protesting Farmers take their Cows into Asda Supermarket

In Stafford, UK, dairy farmers take cows into a supermarket in protest at low milk prices. Some supermarkets are currently paying around 30-33p per litre but others, including Asda, are paying as little as 23p per litre.

On Sunday, the farmers lead two cows through the aisles of Asda supermarket before stopping in front of the dairy produce where a spokesman appealed for public support for the farmers' calls to increase milk prices.

The police were called to remove the protesters. Local media outlets reported that after being moved on from the store in Stafford, the campaigners attempted to take the cows to another Asda store in Stoke-on-Trent but were prevented from entering by police.

The average local dairy farmer is producing about 2,500 litres of milk per day.
