Working Women in Islam

Either Myth or Reality that Islam promote being Working Woman. The prompt example for being Working Woman given of the first wife of last prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him). The example is given that she sent her slave with the last Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) to sell merchandise inventory. So, Hazrat Khadija (RA) was working woman?

No evidence being working woman. Look into following points:

  • Did she ever involved in dealing any kind of trade?
  • Why she did not go on business trip last Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him)?
  • Why she did not go on business trip with her slave
  • How Ummul Mominin called working woman

    Ummul Mominin Khadijatul Kubra had to sell probably her late husband's trade goods (as she became widow twice in her life). If she would be a working woman then she would go on business tour alone or take her slave, or accompany the last prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) or someone else. There is no evidence that she ever traveled for business purpose on business tour or such trip.

    Working Women in era of the Last Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him)

    Since the marriage of Ummul Mominin Khadijatul Kubra (RA) with the Last Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) there is no such example as she lived 15 years till her death. Neither other wife of the last Prophet set example of being working woman or involved in trade or any kind of business to earn money or in search of financial sources.

    Example of Working Women in Muslim Era

    Till the 17th century Muslims like al-Khwarizmi, Ibn al-Haytham, Jabir ibn Hayyan, Bu Ali Sina (Avicenna), Al-Biruni and other numerous scientists, chemists, mathematicians, physicists, lawmakers and many more evolved and made name in the history without joining well reputed universities. There is not a single Muslim woman called working woman.

    Liberal Muslims

    Liberal Muslims as well as secular giving the journey she sent her slave with the last Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) with her salable items of trade. If this prove her working woman then what about the questions asked above?

    Working women in Hadith

    The last Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) told as the signs arrival of judgement day (end of the world) that wife will assist her husband in business. The end of the world is the worst condition in the world, for the people, and other signs told are taking Muslims away from their religion. The end of the world will be experienced by mostly bad people in worst practices.

    Criticism

    A perception created that working women or a woman in a profession or in any occupation is condemned in Islam, wrong! There is no truth. This is recommended that lady doctor should treat women and vice-versa for men.

    For a non-Muslim woman, this will make her happy that man measuring her breasts size for shirt or exploring her hips and crotch for trousers or bottoms measurements? Also to enjoy man checking female customer's dressed fitting discovering her figure?

    Conclusion

    Islam is the religion of nature and nothing against nature. Something looks charming but actually men or women, boy or girl, all dislike them. Islam assign roles to everyone. Rich's role for poor, employer role for employee, parent role for child, ruler role for public, man role for woman and vice versa for all.
